  2. QUESTION:
    Help with the VLOOKUP function!?
It says in cell J5, use the VLOOKUP function to display the appropriate description for the order. Use the book ID as the lookup value. The lookup table is the table named Description in the lookup tables worksheet; the column index is 2, and the range_lookup value is FALSE.

    So I type in this:

    Lookup_value- ID
    Table_array-??
    Col_index_num- 2
    Range_lookup- FALSE

I have tried everything in the table_array space and I have NO clue what to put!! Please help me.

    • ANSWER:
table array is the entire cell range.

so locate the upper left cell (for example A1), click and drag your mouse to the lower right cell (for example C10). So your cell range would look like this: A1:C10. That's your table array.

  3. QUESTION:
    excel help??????????????
I need help in making these into function for some hw I have. In other words how would I piece these into formulas
#1 In cell G5, enter a formula that calculates the state sales tax by multiplying the base cost of the car (in F5) by 7%. Copy the formula down to cells G6:G16.
#2 In cell H5, enter a formula that adds the sales tax (in G5) to the base price of the car (in F5). Copy the formula down to cells H6:H16.
#3 In cell I5, enter a function to calculate a monthly payment for buyers. The function will refer to the annual interest rate (in D21) divided by 12, a loan term of 48 months, and the total cost of the car (in H5). Refer to the annual interest rate (D21) as an absolute cell reference. Copy the function down to cells I6: I16.
#4 In cell J5, create a VLOOKUP function that returns the salesperson commission that corresponds with the base cost of the car (in F5). Use the range $C:$D as the Lookup Table, and return the commission rate from Column 2.
#5 In cell G24, enter an IF function that will calculate a bonus for the part-time sales agents. If the value in cell G19 (Total for all sales) is greater than 250000, then multiply G19 by .015. Otherwise, the function will return a value of 0 (i.e. no bonus).

    • ANSWER:
Without seeing it, hard to do..
      Couple of points:
      1) Interest rate/12 should also be divided by 100 (usually). That is, 12% interest is 0.12/12*principle (meaning 0.01 * principle per month. This is not clear in #3 if the number is "%" (ie 12%) or the actual rate (ie 0.12)
      2) Vlookup requires the search column to be alphabetically sorted. It may fail otherwise in finding the right answer.

      #1 G5 = F5*0.07
      #2 H5 = G5+F5
#3 I5 = $D/12 (and maybe/100) and look up load payment function in Excel.

After that, do your own homework ;)

  5. QUESTION:
    I really need Excel helppp!?
In cell J5, create a VLOOKUP function that returns the salesperson commission that corresponds with the base cost of the car (in F5). Use the range $C:$D as the Lookup Table, and return the commission rate from Column 2.

    • ANSWER:
      =VLOOKUP(F5, $C:$D, 2)

Now, if D24:D28 has actual commission rates, that should work. If not, then as IXL@XL stated, we need more info if the commission rate needs to be calculated based on other data.

in cell j5 use the vlookup function
