Reverse Gif Search

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    How do I find out what video a gif is from?
    I have a friend who needs to know what video/videos a few gifs are from, I have no idea how do to find the video. I have tried to look up how...but have come up with nothing so far.

    I don't even know if it is possible to find the original after the gif has been saved as a file, but if anyone knows could you please help!

    Thanks so much.

    • ANSWER:
      Sounds like a wild goose chase yer on here huh.
      That goose is out there somewhere sure as you are holding that photo.

      TinEye Reverse Image Search is an online service that catalogs images found on the internet.
      I is capable of detecting other photos of the same person and also altered photos.
      That's at www.tineye.com/ try that out...

      Also Picasa has Face tags that someone might have entered and recorded a name to the face. Not sure how to get that to all work. It worked well on my computer to find all images and videos of a person of interest I think it works online also.

      Microsoft has an option that does similar to Picasa but it had a feature that would show the name of a person that you tagged in your photos. That is Windows Live Photo Gallery.
      See a photo on the web mouseover and see a name if it's there.

      Show us the photo maybe we can place a name on it for you and direct you to videos containing the person in question.

      Though I am "assuming" we are talking about a face. That always is easier. Tineye will detect how many pepperonis are on a pizza so it seems they look for geometry not simply faces. or whatever.

      That will just put a name on it though. Then the hard part is locating the video.
      I don't know if Videosurf.com's Video Search API has an option for what you need. It looks too involved for me right now.

      Best solution is usually to provide an image and one of the humans out there may recall it.
      Though try the computer solution as well.

      We need more information to further assist you with this matter. :)
      There are message boards and the like of whatever type movie it may be from. post there and someone may recall.

      goot luck

  2. QUESTION:
    I really need to know how people play songs backwards to hear the subliminal messages?
    I have searched and searched for ways to play cassettes or CD's backwards but nobody has the answer I need. Help Please!

    • ANSWER:
      Yeah, I'd definitely go with Audacity.
      http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

      Open the song file with Audacity, then go to the Effect menu and click Reverse.

      (And if you need to, you can record the song into Audacity from a CD or cassette player. Get an 1/8th inch cable - which looks like this: http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/play-ipod-in-car-2.jpg - plug one end into the headphone jack on the player, and the other end into your computer's microphone jack, and then press Record on Audacity and play the song from your player.)

  3. QUESTION:
    How to recover shift deleted files in Ubuntu?
    Hi all, I am working in an institution. There students are using laptop which have Ubuntu 9.4 and Ubuntu 10.0 operating systems. Actually what they are doing is they are listening songs and watching videos when I am tecahing class. When I go there to check simply they are shift deleting the files. Then how can I find them. How can get recover those files to punish them?.

    • ANSWER:
      Method 1 to recover deleted files in Ubuntu: Scapel

      Scalpel is a fast file carver that reads a database of header and footer definitions and extracts matching files from a set of image files or raw device files. Scalpel is filesystem-independent and will carve files from FATx, NTFS, ext2/3, or raw partitions. It is useful for both digital forensics investigation and file recovery. This short article shows how you can use Scalpel to recover deleted files.

      In Ubuntu, Scalpel can be installed as follows:

      apt-get install scalpel

      Before we can use Scalpel, we must define some file types that Scalpel should search for in /etc/scalpel/scalpel.conf. By default, all file types are commented out. Uncomment the lines you want, for instance if you want to recover PDF files:

      Press Alt + F2 and type: gedit /etc/scalpel/scalpel.conf

      and uncomment these lines:

      pdf y 5000000 %PDF %EOFx0d REVERSE
      pdf y 5000000 %PDF %EOFx0a REVERSE

      Scalpel can be used as follows to try to recover the files:

      scalpel /dev/sda1 -o output

      -o defines the directory where Scalpel will place the recovered files - in this case the directory is named output and is a subdirectory of the directory where we are running the scalpel command from; the directory must not exist because otherwise scalpel will refuse to start.

      After Scalpel has finished, you will find a folder called output in the directory from where you called Scalpel. The audit.txt contains a summary of what Scalpel has done and the pdf-0-0/ subdirectory contains the pdf files that Scalpel has recovered.

      Before you run Scalpel the next time from the same directory, you must either delete/rename the current output/ directory (because Scalpel will not start if the output directory is already existing) or use specify another output directory.

      Method 2 for recovering deleted files in Ubuntu: Foremost

      Foremost is a console program to recover files based on their headers, footers, and internal data structures. This process is commonly referred to as data carving. Foremost can work on image files, such as those generated by dd, Safeback, Encase, etc, or directly on a drive. The headers and footers can be specified by a configuration file or you can use command line switches to specify built-in file types. These built-in types look at the data structures of a given file format allowing for a more reliable and faster recovery.

      Install foremost in Ubuntu

      sudo aptitude install foremost

      This will complete the installation.

      Using Foremost

      Foremost Syntax

      foremost [-h][-V][-d][-vqwQT][-b][-o] [-t][-s][-i]

      Foremost examples

      Search for jpeg format skipping the first 100 blocks

      sudo foremost -s 100 -t jpg -i image.dd

      Only generate an audit file, and print to the screen (verbose mode)

      sudo foremost -av image.dd

      Search all defined types

      sudo foremost -t all -i image.dd

      Search for gif and pdf

      sudo foremost -t gif,pdf -i image.dd

      Search for office documents and jpeg files in a Unix file sys-tem in verbose mode.

      sudo foremost -v -t ole,jpeg -i image.dd

      Run the default case

      sudo foremost image.dd

      image.dd means you need to enter your hardisk mount point i.e /dev/sda1 or /dev/sda2

  4. QUESTION:
    How is the poppy grown in Afganistan for opium or heroin different than the poppies we grow in our garden?
    Do they make the garden poppies not produce the ingredients for opium?

    • ANSWER:
      A poppy is any of a number of showy flowers, typically with one per stem, belonging to the poppy family. They include a number of attractive wildflower species with showy flowers found growing singularly or in large groups; many species are also grown in gardens. Those that are grown in gardens include large plants used in a mixed herbaceous boarder and small plants that are grown in rock or alpine gardens.

      Poppies may be found in the genera:

      Meconopsis —— Himalayan poppy, Welsh poppy and relatives.
      *********Papaver —— Iceland poppy, Oriental poppy, Opium *********poppy, corn poppy and about 120 other species.
      Romneya —— Matilija poppy and relatives.
      Eschscholzia —— California poppy and relatives. (Important garden poppy)

      Stylophorum —— Celandine-poppy, mock poppy, yellow-poppy, wood-poppy.
      Argemone —— Prickly-poppy
      Canbya —— Pygmy-poppy
      Stylomecon —— Wind-poppy
      Arctomecon —— Desert bearclaw-poppy
      Hunnemannia —— Tulip poppy
      Dendromecon —— Tree poppy

      The flower color of poppy species include: white, pink, yellow, orange, red and blue; some have dark center markings. The species that have been cultivated for many years also include many other colors ranging from dark solid colors to soft pastel shades. The center of the flower has a whorl of stamens surrounded by a cup- or bowl-shaped collection of four to six petals. Prior to blooming, the petals are crumpled in bud, and as blooming finishes, the petals often lie flat before falling away.

      Out of all mentioned above , The genus Papaver is the most important .

      In that Genus Papaver somniferum IS ONLY THE OPIUM POPPY that is cultivated for the opium drug .

      Afghanistan is the world's leading producer of opium, from the poppy Papaver somniferum ( The only opium poppy).

      Poppy cultivation is currently illegal, and so all opium produced is diverted to the illegal narcotics trade.

      Afghanistan is also the world's leading source of heroin, made from opium.

      Since the international intervention in 2001, the international community and the Afghan authorities have carried out programmes to eradicate poppy to try and limit the illegal traffic of opium and heroin.

      Although poppy cultivation decreased for a time, since 2003 the trend has reversed and cultivation has increased.

      Millions of Afghans depend on poppy cultivation for their livelihood, and alternative development programmes have not been put in place by the international community to replace lost livelihoods.

      Some have suggested that eradication has failed and another policy should be put in place.

      The Senlis Council is one of the organizations working to find an alternative to eradication and hopes that a project for opium licensing for medicinal use could provide a solution to the problems of diversion, poverty among the rural population and a shortage of essential poppy-based medicines such as morphine and codeine.

  5. QUESTION:
    Help with a reprint of a very famous painting?
    My mother recently bought at auction a black and white reprint of 'The Black Brunswicker' there is wording on the bottom stating that the reprint was published on 1867. We have written to several museums including Liverpool and have had no luck or answers reguarding the 1867 reprint. We have found lots of info about the artist J.E. Millias and the original painting but have had no luck with finding the black and white reprint. Does anyone have any information about this?
    This reprint has printed on the bottom of it that it was published by Louis Brall of London, I would also appreciate any information known about the publisher since I have had no luck in that part of my search either. Thank you for the great information.

    • ANSWER:
      I found this, which is a mixed-method engraving of the subject, but it doesn't state by whom (dated 1864):
      http://www.columbia.edu/cu/record/archives/vol21/vol21_iss5/record2105.22c.gif

      Here there's mention of an engraving of the painting done by an "unknown artist" (but it's not pictured):
      "'The Black Brunswicker' by John Everett Millais, Engraving by Unknown Artist c. 1865
      albumen silver print
      9.3 x 5.8 cm
      Purchased 1972
      National Gallery of Canada (no. 34993.129)"
      http://www.cybermuse.gallery.ca/cybermuse/search/artwork_e.jsp?mkey=45229

      It's also shown in black & white here:
      http://www.victorianweb.org/painting/millais/paintings/king2.html

      And here is another engraving, done by Thomas L. Atkinson (it may be the one shown above at www.victorianweb.org, but the image is reversed):
      http://www.bridgemanartondemand.com/index.cfm?event=catalogue.product&productID=114043

      Prints of it can be purchased, and the references underneath the image say:
      "© Bridgeman Art Library / Private Collection / © The Maas Gallery, London, UK"

      Here it says:
      "The picture was very popular as an engraving and an edition of 1864 was subsequently reprinted."
      http://www.phryne.com/works/14-22-30.HTM

      And finally, I've found this about the engraver:
      "Thomas Lewis Atkinson (1817 - c. 1890) was a master mezzotinter in the Eighteenth Century tradition, and The Black Brunswicker after Millais is possibly his masterpiece. Millais's painting was the perfect vehicle for Atkinson, for mezzotint (being the only tooled technique where the engraver works from dark to light, rubbing down to create tones between) is ideally suited for the convincing depiction of texture. The crisp contrast of the girl's satin dress is as good as anything that Valentine Green (1739 - 1813) produced, so good that you can tell that it is satin and not silk, and the polish on the soldier's boots is so shiny it makes you look at your own shoes."
      http://www.maasgallery.com/Pages/engravings02.htm

      Lastly, here there is a pencil study by Millais for his painting, although I don't believe that's what you're referring to:

The only things I could find that might help reverse or slow some of this is exercise and organic ginkgo tincture with cayenne as when they studied the effect of ginkgo on senility it helped about 43% but when cayenne was added went up into the 90 somethign % as cayenne is a catalyst herb making any herb taken with it more effective as it gets it to where it needs to go

    I meant "a key".

    • ANSWER:
      Well first off the image you posted has nothing to do with Freemasonry. Please see here for the facts on the reverse of the Great Seal of the US, created by...you guessed it, a non-Mason.
      http://www.masonicinfo.com/greatseal.htm
      and here:
      http://www.masonicinfo.com/eye.htm

      Now a sort primer on Freemasonry:
      To explore the organization that some (very few, actually) so vehemently protest, we must first explain what Masonry IS! Here are some key points:

      Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity. While its traditions look back to earliest history, Masonry in its current form appeared when its public events were noticed by the residents of London, England in 1717. Although Masonry - particularly in its earliest days - had some elements of secrecy, the first 'exposure' of the supposedly highly-secret Masonic ritual actually appeared in 1696! Since that time, there have been tens of thousands of books published about this 'secret organization'. And for over three hundred years, despite the good works done by its members, Freemasonry has continually suffered the slings and arrows of those who seek to use it's quiet nature against it.

      Freemasonry's singular purpose is to make good men better and its bonds of friendship, compassion and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military and religious conflicts through the centuries. Freemasonry is neither a forum nor a place of worship. It is not a religion nor does it teach a religious philosophy. For nearly three hundred years it has attracted men of high moral character who support the tenets of temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.

      We're often asked, "What do Freemasons believe?" The answer is quite simple: essentially the same things that teachers, bus drivers, Rotarians, or anyone else believes. There is no 'requirement' that all Masons believe certain things except insofar as good behavior dictates.

      Today, the more than four million Freemasons around the world come from virtually every occupation and profession. Within the Fraternity, however, all meet as equals. In fact, one of the most fascinating aspects of Freemasonry (and an obvious source of irritation for those who thrive on the seeds of discontent) has always been: how can so many men, from so many different walks of life, meet together in peace, ignoring political or religious debates, to conduct their affairs in harmony and friendship and to call each other "Brother!" It's truly a conundrum which perplexes those outside the fraternity. Laying aside petty jealousies and agreeing that issues of politics and religion are not proper for discussion within a lodge, the 'bones of contention' that so often divide are removed thereby making it possible for men of varying religious and political interests to meet on common ground.

      OK so what have you learned..the take away should be that Freemasons DON'T control the education system (it would not be a shambles now if we did) nor the government in anyway shape or form, although like the public school system that is also a mess.

  8. QUESTION:
    What is a cross current pertaining in biology?

    • ANSWER:
      I'm not familiar with this term in biology, but did a web search where I found this website that defines this as "Cross-currents are areas of conflicting opinion and unresolved standards of practice and performance." http://fwie.fw.vt.edu/rhgiles/CrossCurrent.htm

      I'm wondering if this is the actual term you're looking for or if it's actually "counter-current" which I've seen used frequently to describe temperature and dissolved gas content in blood vessels. The idea here is that when blood vessels travel in the same direction and heat and gasees are exchanged between them, the system is more inefficient. The gas exchange (by diffusion) can only pass on 50% of the content, as if the concentration were higher, it would reverse:

      100%____>___50%
      0%______>____50%

      If the vessels have the flow going in the opposite direction, the exchange can be much greater:

      100%____>____2%
      0% _____<____98%

      Here's a diagram from the web illustrating this with blood flow so that heat is conserved in cold water - the heat is transferred from the blood vessel leaving the body to the same vessel as it returns so the cold blood doesn't shock major organs: http://people.eku.edu/ritchisong/countercurrent2.gif

      And one showing this with blood oxygen content: http://science.kennesaw.edu/~jdirnber/Bio2108/Lecture/LecPhysio/42-21-CountercurrentExch-AL.gif

      So go by the context of what you've been studying, and you should be able to decide which of these best fits.

    Write the name and draw the skeletal structure of the major organic product when 1-pentyne reacts with:?
    Write the name and draw the skeletal structure of the major organic product when 1-pentyne reacts with:

    (a) 1 equivalent of HBr

    (b) 1 equivalent of HBr in the presence of peroxides

    Any help would be appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
      a. 2-bromo-1-pentene (1:1 mole ratio right?)
      b. reversed regioselectivity. 1-bromo-1-pentene.

      difference.
      a. is nucleophilic addition. there is a secondary carbocation intermediate (on carbon 2). the bromide ion (nucleophile) will attack this carbocation, hence, a 2-bromo product

      b. the presence of peroxides will cleave (homolytic cleavage) the HBr bond, forming Br radical and H radical. the Br radical will form bond with the alkyne. the bond is formed from 1 electron from the radical, and one electron from the pi bond of the triple bond (thus breaking it). there are two possible radical for this. one is that the single electron will remain in the first carbon, then the Br forms bond with the 2nd carbon. or the single electron will be on the 2nd carbon. the carbon radical will be more stable in the secondary position. that's why the Br forms bond with the 1st carbon, hence 1-bromo

      SACHIN TENDULKAR - the name itself strikes terror in the hearts of bowlers all around the world. Hailed as the next master-blaster following the legacy of the great West Indian Vivian Richards, this man has all the shots in the book, and a few more. There is nothing this man cannot do - he opens the batting for India in the one-dayers, comes at no. 4 in test matches, bowls rightarm offbreaks, legbreaks and even googlies (the wrong-un). He also swings the ball both ways when he bowls his medium pacers. It seems he had tried his hands at wicket-keeping too (in his school days), but gave it up in pursuit of what he does best - Batting.
      A child prodigy, he made his international debut in ODIs and Tests at the age of 16 ( yes 16 ) against Pakistan and the fiery pace of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis . He then went to England as a part of the national side, and has not looked back ever since. In batting, he has reached a stage that others can only dream of. He has destroyed practically every bowling opposition in the world - from Shane Warne (Aus.) to Saqlain Mushtaq (Pak.) , and Waqar Younis (Pak.) to Allan Donald (RSA) , and in style . Tendulkar 'specialites' include the straight drive (seemingly nobody plays the shot better than him ), the cover drive, the square cut, the pullshot over midwicket/square leg, the delicate leg glance, the late cut, the lofted shots over mid-on and mid-off and not to mention the improvisations he keeps coming up with time and again. He plays each of his shots amazingly well and has even employed the reverse sweep to good effect. A short but powerful man, some of his shots are hit with so much power that the ball simply rockets to the fence as if he was trying to dismiss the ball from his presence. On the other hand, some of his shots are simply timed and placed well. His timing can be quite exquisite and it is this blend of timing and raw power that puts him in the top league with Brian Lara (W.I.) ,Waugh Twins(Mark and Steve, Aus.) and Ricky Ponting (Aus.).

      Always involved in the game, he never hesitates to give his inputs to the captain or to the bowlers. His selfless approach and devotion to cricket coupled with the lack of any ego problems makes him one of the most approachable and likeable personalities on the cricket field. No wonder he commands a huge fan following all over the world. He is a great thinker of the game and a good strategist too.It was his great cricketing mind that saw him being appointed as the captain of the Indian side in 1996-97 making him the second youngest captain in the history of Indian cricket (the youngest being M.A.K. Pataudi who was appointed captain at the age of 21). He initially justified the faith put in him by leading India to series victories against Australia (Border - Gavaskar Trophy), South Africa (at home) and also lifted the TITAN cup (Triangular tournament featuring India, Australia & South Africa). But after that, the performances dropped. He was not given the squad that he wanted and India started losing under an unhappy captain. As usual, the skipper was made the scape-goat and citing his lack of form (!!! he had scored more than a thousand runs in both ODIs and Tests in 1997 - a record) was removed from captaincy. Since then, he has flourished with both the bat and the ball, and is thus back to his true self and the job he loves the most - winning matches for India.

      With age on his side, this man is set out to be the highest run getter in the history of world cricket. He has already won rich praises from people and fellow/former cricketers who see in him a living legend and a master batsman who is leagues above his fellow cricketers.
      Truly, a living legend and a great champion.

  15. QUESTION:
    how to return a char array from function?
    I'm using C language. I have a function called Reversal(char string[], char result_string[]). I need to reverse the alphabets in string and store the reversed string in result_string. Reversal has to return result_string to my main function. How do I make Reversal return an array? I tried using a pointer pointing to result_string, and returned the pointer, but only the first character, in result_string[0], got returned to main and not the whole array.

    Click to view my code:
    http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d128/defiantbrat/question2.gif

    I googled and searched yahoo answers and saw solutions involving something called malloc, and other complicated stuff. Is there a simpler way to do this?

    I'm only in my first month into programming. So hopefully you guys can help with some simpler solutions please!
    Currently I'm using this, which works:

    main() {
    for (i=strlen(string)-1, j=0; i>=0; i--, j++) {
    printf("%c", Reversal(string, result_string));
    }
    }

    char Reversal(char string[], char result_string[]) {
    result_string[j]=string[i];
    return result_string[j];
    }
    An exact, fully working piece of code would be nice please (one that I can copy, paste and use. understanding will come later =x). The answer provided by noworryz doesn't work, and I don't really understand it. = But thanks too!

    • ANSWER:
      The standard and safest way to do this is to pass a pointer to an array along with its size to the function. The function then fills in the array.

      The library function strnprintf is an example.

      Your main would look like:

      int main()
      {
      char myreturnarray[128];
      fillinthearray(myreturnarry, sizeof(myreturnarray));
      printf("array is now n", myreturnarray);
      return 0;
      }

      You would have a function that returns the characters:

      void fillinthearray(char *thearray, int arraysize)
      {
      snprintf(thearray, arraysize, "filling in the array of size %d", arraysize);

      }

    How do I remove the spyware doubleclick?
    Every time I enter a search in any search engine I get the following nclk(GIF Image, 1x1 pixels) in the tab and this as the url
    http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/nclk?sa=L&ai=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spywareremove.com%2FremoveDoubleClick.html

    • ANSWER:
      I suggest you download Ad-Aware Free and Spybot S&D (they’re free), install them, update them and run full scans with them in Safe Mode With Networking. Safe Mode With Networking sometimes keeps malware from protecting itself.

      Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

      To get into Safe Mode with Networking:

      1.Log out and reboot your machine.
      2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
      3.Select Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.
      4.Login. If the malware has changed your password, try logging in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.
      5.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.
      6.When you're finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

      Another trick that may enable anti-malware and/or its installer program to sneak past the malware is to change the name of the anti-malware program itself. The names of the files and their locations differ between anti-malware programs, but the procedure is always the same:

      1.In Windows Explorer, find the folder with the anti-malware.
      2.Change the name of the program (it always ends with a .exe) to virtually anything else, but keep the “.exe” part.
      3.Run that.

      Note that even if the anti-malware programs get rid of the malware, they may not be able to reverse the effects. Search the Web for possible fixes.

      Update and run full scans regularly, not just when you think you already have malware.

      Good luck.

    Is This Image That of Some Strange Tool?
    http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk80/besunny/mysteryprintblock.jpg

    It's on one of several dozen printers blocks (the kind print shops used in early to mid-20th century) that I found among the stuff left behind by a relative who was a printer.

    Some are easy to ID - animals, soldiers, etc - but some are weird. Like this. I don't have a clue as to what it is. Some kind of tool, or pulley? (I don't even know if I photographed it right side up.)

    Anyone know? Best Answer with 3 stars for best guess, with all 5 for a "for sure" or linked reply!!

    • ANSWER:
      Its an 'old english' letter A... youve got it shown in the photo laying on its 'back'. Don't forget, its reversed, for the purposes of printing.

      Here is a photo of a font which uses that type - the 'A's are about 3/4 of the way down.
      http://www.matchfonts.com/printouts/-Flandre.gif
      You might even find a few more that match some of those you've not identified yet, in that photo. There are MANY styles of old english lettering.... for a quick tour, just do an image search for 'old english font'

  18. QUESTION:
    What is the Technology of "Prove you're not a computer"?
    Hi, I have a question.
    when u want to sign up ex. yahoo mail and the end there is a code in image format right? that asks u to retype that code to verify. my question is how to make such a thing, where can i have sth. like this, programing? any source? thx

    • ANSWER:
      In sample steps:
      1. Program chooses a random word from a dictionary/word data base (many can be found free on line).
      2. Program writes random word to a Gif or Jpeg image. Optionally distorting the image (many ways to do this). Distortion is meant to prevent computer-run OCR from recognizing and solving.
      3. Use HTML to post Gif image and prompt user for answer on website.
      4. Program/HTML compares user response to random word....done.

      #2 is maybe the only challenging part?
      - Free Gif and/or Jpeg encoder source code can be found on the Internet.
      - Distortion of image should occur while image is in raw raster format (prior to Gif/Jpeg encoding). A search for image manipulation (sharpen/smooth/stretch/flip/reverse) source code should provide a lot of hits.

      Skill level: Writing a Gif is straightforward, Jpeg is more challenging. A first year C programmer (with no graphics experience) might need months to complete such a project. An all-phases-experienced programmer might still need a couple weeks, full time.

      ...cheers....

  23. QUESTION:
    what free software do i need to convert image files into .wmf files?

    • ANSWER:
      So you want a free program that converts into a format that's not free - that's proprietary. Not likely to happen unless reverse-engineered like the Word DOC format has been. That's why you won't find an official free conversion program.

      The originator of this particular format does NOT have a good reputation. Instead they seek to lock you in to their secret file formats in all their products. Once you have saved your output into their product's format - they have you for life [with the minor exception of Linux/FOSS products that insist on repeatedly breaking their trap back open]. Look at http://www.google.com/search?q=wmf+formats&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a and http://companionsoftware.com/PR/WMRC/WindowsMetafileFaq.html for some background.

      You can use the free Gimp program for even very advanced editing and conversion of photographs. It's powerful and even the source code is free at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ and please use it to convert to a format that's not tied down. PNG was invented because once GIF was "encumbered". The JPEG format just escaped from the last of its patent protections - and it is wildly more popular than WMF - so JPEG may be a Much Better Choice for your needs.

      Good luck!

  24. QUESTION:
    code to stop someone from rght clicking on page?
    i would really appreciate it if i could get a code to stop someone from right clicking or stealing things on my pages. also, if you know any websites that make your websites different than anyone elses, or with great animated designs and such.....that would be great. i want to become a web master so i am very interested in it all. thank you in advanced.

    • ANSWER:
      If you want to be a webmaster, this is your first lesson: Nothing on the internet is safe from theft. You can lock it down as hard as you want, but if its out there, it CAN be duplicated in many ways (even as simple as a screen snapshot) or printing to TIFF file which can be cropped in photoshop.

      On images that you want to have a legal way of going after someone, make watermarks.

      Flash SWFs can be reverse engineered. GIF animations (how tacky) can be reused. Even with a script that will stop the context menus, someone can still view the source HTML code using notepad.

      Get used to the small things cause you cant stop it. The big things need protected from the lawyers. make sure all of your clients realize this if you are going out on your own. The internet is fair use and public domain.

      Lesson 2: search for various contracts from webmasters on the net to get ideas of what you need to protect yourself...which is exactly what your question was regarding protection. See what I mean?

    help with drawing the structural formula of caffeine , please?
    sorry if this question is a silly one, but what I'm wondering is , is there a more correct way to draw the structural formula of caffeine?

    when drawing structural formulas you can draw them one way or in reverse or even upside down and it still means the same thing, usually. However when drawing molecules with functional groups e.g. primary alcohols, aldehydes, carboxylic acids and so forth you usually place the functional group at the end (far right) with the R group left of it,

    when drawing caffeine is there a more correct way to draw it? i.e. pentyl ring first, hexyl ring second , or hexyl ring first, pentyl ring second? or does it not matter at all?

    I only ask because I plan to get a tattoo of it on my body and although I am studying chemistry now and plan to do further study in 3rd level I haven't covered more complex organic chemistry and I don't want to get it backwards, or more so, I don't want it to be done the reverse of how you would usually draw it or see it represented

  28. QUESTION:
    I don't understand the Major Key Signatures in piano?
    Okay, I am sooo lost! I don't even know if I am asking this question right, but here goes:
    So my piano teacher tried to teach me something about "BEADGCF" (BEAD Got Caught Fighting) and reverse for the sharps but I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about! There's like C major, F major, and G major (I'm looking at a practice theory test). Please, explain to me what this is all about!

    Oh, and there's also something like WWH(W)WWH ?? So my overall question (as stated in the title) is: what the heck are the Major Key Signature in piano?? and why do we have them??

    Thanks!
    BTW, my teacher taught me more, but I kinda got so confused that I zoned out...

    • ANSWER:
      The Key signature for sheet music indicates which key you are in:

      Each key signature denotes a Major/Relative Minor Key pair. THEY ALWAYS COME IN PAIRS

      Interval Pattern for Major Key

      1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1
      W W H (W) W W H, Notice that the H are the two white keys that are next to each other without a black key between them in the key of C Major/A minor.

      The notes of the key, and therefore the appropriate sharps are applied determined by

      1.) The note you start on
      2.) Applying the Interval formula W W H (W) W W H

      It doesn't matter what note you start on, you write down a letter for each note A B C D E F G and then alter them according to the pattern of W W H (W) W W H.

      Its exactly that. No more no less.

      In the key of

  29. QUESTION:
    How does rocket propelled grenade pierce armor?
    Tho flat sheets of metal of equal and uniform thickness move toward each other at angle φ=20°. The velocity of each sheet is V=1000 m/s in direction perpendicular to each sheet.

    Cros-section of the process in three sequential moments of time is shown here:
    http://i38.tinypic.com/33z33bn.gif

    When the sheets collide in such configuration, the metal behaves as ideal incompressible liquid without viscosity. As a result of high pressure at the point of collision a thin jet of metal is ejected forward, trust me on this.

    What is velocity U of the jet?

    *****
    By no means should the solution of this problem involve anything beyond high school physics. No integration, let alone PDE. Despite all this, this problem is extremely hard, because it is not about trivial knowledge, it is about application of such knowledge.
    Here is similar cumulative jet of water as the flat wing of bird hits the surface:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/gitart/2914483241/
    The frame of reference moving at speed Vcosec(θ/2) is special (and accounts for 90% of the solution).

    In this frame of reference the flow is STATIONARY. Because the flow is stationary, Bernoulli equaion applies.

    That is metal enters at speed
    V' = V cotan(θ/2)
    and must therefore leave at same speed
    V' = V cotan(θ/2)
    in either direction.

    All metal cannot flow to the left, because enters horizontal mometum
    V'ρ cos(θ/2) = Vρ cotan(θ/2) cos(θ/2)
    and exits to the left horizontal mometum
    (1-α) V' ρ, and
    part α
    (1-α) - α = cos(θ/2)
    α = [1-cos(θ/2)] /2
    must flow to the right at same speed V'.

    That is, exact answer is
    U = V(cosec(θ/2) + cotan(θ/2))

    • ANSWER:
      It will be close to
      U = 2 v / sin (theta/2)

      Assume the frame of reference of the point where the two plane's collide. This is

      V = v/sin(theta/2).

      But the jet just can't sit there. It would end up in a big glob. The pressure behind it should be nearly equal to the pressure needed to double the velocity. You need that to get a nice even stream exiting, like this: http://www.garden-water-fountains.com/manneken_pis_boy_peeing_urinating_outdoor_garden_water_fountain_pond.jpg So the final answer should be:

      U ~ 2 v/sin(theta/2)
      U ~ 11,500 m/s .... pretty quick.

      PS: Keep this open over the weekend, I might be able to refine the pressure part of the answer (if I have the time) which is just a back of the envelope estimate.

      *My mistake, I was thinking just two dimensions on the jet. lol

      *************
      It is actually

      2v / tan theta/2.

      What is important is the velocity of the point metal sheet as it approaches the reverse "gore point." (The gore point is the triangular point on a freeway where a freeway divides). Not the velocity of the point itself. It then becomes a simple conservation of momentum problem. (With lack of viscosity, what else could you do?)

      Here is a mock up of how it works for a single atom assuming no collisions with any other atom in the fluid. On a macroscale, the fluid will follow the same path: http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/Remo_Aviron/Fluid-1.jpg . (*Note: the mock up only deals with one half of the explosion

      This is facinating stuff. You can watch this video on Youtube of grown men wandering off into the woods and blowing up stuff with linear shaped charges. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZRAbUcUkIc

      What really began to interested me about the question was why the impulse wave was so narrow and so directed. Like this picture of a destroyer: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/h01000/h01038.jpg . Or this splash: http://johnfudrow.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/splash.jpg And with respect to a solid driver (bird wing, destroyer bow wave) the jet parallels the solid surface and doesn't dispearse.

      I think I have splash phenomena figured out. But I continued to research, and I found some interesting results on google searches, one of which was one of your ancestor: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuAS_Le.72zA.vSf1ErIGq0jzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20070529101937AAohxRM (I note that your forefather derived 4 v / tan theta -- I cannot explain the difference, but it is small for most angles)

      I also found another site (which I can no longer locate) that had a different answer (it took the sin/sin of the phase and group velocities). But all of these are good estimates of an interesting and complex phenomena.

      There are also several articles on Wiki that provide a good general description: "Shaped charges" and "Munroe effect"

  30. QUESTION:
    What is a great beginner women's snowboard?
    I have been searching online for weeks and weeks. All of this snowboard jargon makes my head spin. I'm looking for snowboard or snowboard brand suggestions:

    I'm a second time boarder with the opportunity to be much more dedicated to the sport. I am interested in an all-mountain board with twin or true twin shape. So far I have really been interested in the Rossignol Myth Amptek board for these reasons. But words like camber, rocker, etc., are baffling to me, and I have been relying mostly on product reviews in order to make my decision.

    Even if you don't have a specific board in mind, maybe you could help me understand snowboard design/technologies, or good snowboard brands for women (I've been exploring Rossi, K2, Burton, 5150). If you are able to help suggest specific boards, I need 152-154cm with 240 width. But any information at all that can help me make this decision is very much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
      For starters, are you sure you need a 152-154 size board? what are your specs including boot size? The 240 width spec you spoke of is just a guideline and doesn't need to be exact, just around that general area. It's not even a true width measurement for your feet.

      Do you have a budget? because snowboard gear can get quite expensive

      Any reason why you only want a true twin or directional twin with an all-mountain board?

      Camber, Rocker, etc.. they aren't hard to figure out. The only thing that might give you problems is each company calls their camber profile something different so you'll need to read the technical details to figure out what it means. You'll run into words like RC Tech, C2BTX, Flying-V, Prorise, Camrock. etc... while you may not know what these mean, a quick look at the technology description will immediately tell you.

      Traditional Camber http://snowboarding.transworld.net/files/2009/10/traditional.jpg has been used for years. It's only until recently that companies started producing boards with Rocker or Hybrid Camber. Traditional Camber will give you the most stability at high speed, it will give you the most pop, and best edge hold. Some issues are that it can be quite catchy and unforgiving, especially with new riders.
      Rocker/Reverse Camber http://snowboarding.transworld.net/files/2009/10/rocker.jpg is basically the opposite of traditional camber in shape. It will give you a loose and playful ride, more forgiveness, and a catch free ride. Some issues are that it can be unstable at high speeds, wash out through turns, and lacks pop.
      Hybrid Camber/Camber combo/C2BTX/RC Tech/Flying-V/Camrock http://www.snowboardsizing.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/snowboard-camber-rocker1.jpg
      http://www.snowboard-review.com/images/uploads/news/camber_explanation.gif This is a combination of Rocker and Camber. The goal is to keep the playful catch free feel of Rocker with the Stability and edge hold of Traditional Camber. It works just fine,

      That should help you out a little bit. Usually beginners learn better on a softer flexing (but not too soft) Reverse Camber or Hybrid Camber board.

      As for brands. I'm not too familiar with Rossi snowboards, and 5150 sucks. There are companies like K2, Burton, Gnu, Arbor, Bataleon, Never Summer, Roxy, Rome, Capita, Nitro, and Ride that I think make some good womens boards.

      If anything else confuses you just ask. I should know the answer
      I could suggest boards, but I don't know your budget.

  31. QUESTION:
    Removing background from an image, logo, using Corel or other?
    I have a logo for my business with a globe on the left and then it has my business name. I want to put in on a green background but when I do, there is a white background behind my logo.

    How do I remove that background, and just have my graphic and words (so I can place it on any color background)?

    (I have access to Corel and Microsoft publisher, maybe more. Which program should I do this on and what does the 'graphic+words' logo need to be saved as? (a gif?)

    (I've done it before with just the globe, a circle shape, but I don't know what to do with the lettering.)

    thank you!

    • ANSWER:
      Just off the top of my head... I have Corel 11 on my desktop pc but not on this machine I'm presently using.

      If I remember right you could simply click on "new" and when you do you should be able to select the size of the image, the dpi and the background color. You could then cut and paste what you want from your present file onto the new image. You will likely have to retype the text using this method.

      Or you could simply open your present file and if I remember correctly click on "image" and select replace colors. Then simply replace white with the new color you want. The problem with this method is if there is any white anywhere on your file besides the background then that will also be replaced with the new color. To fix this you could first use the round masking tool and mask the globe and then click on edit and copy. Then do your color change and finally click on edit and paste as new object and that should take care of the problem.

      Still another method would be to use a reverse mask. Mask your globe and somewhere you will find a selection from the menu to reverse the mask - then do your color change, changing white to the green you want and remove the mask and that should do it.

      There may also be a simpler way of simply selecting the background [perhaps in properties?] and simply change the background color. If that's possible then that would be the easiest method of all but I've never used such a feature. You might try searching under help for "change background color".

      Finally, if you wanted to save the file with a transparent background you would be given that option when saving as a gif file. Again if you kept the white background when doing this any white in your globe image would also be transparent.

      The conjunction of the Moon and Pluto produces an intense romantic nature. You seek relationships with those who feel as deeply and as tenaciously as you do. i want to be really tan within 2 weeks.
    are there any self tanners that dont smell bad and work really well? jergens didnt work for me.

    • ANSWER:
      Sorry, you are not going to look THAT tan in 2-weeks EVEN 2 months. Only in advertisements, to entice people. It is a billion dollar business . . . . to sell. David Hasselhoff is 57, and George Hamilton have been tanning longer than David, take a look how tanned their bodies are!

      Tanning comes & go, unless you do them everyday 24/7 for the rest of your life. But in the end the only thing you'll benefit is either moles, freckles or discolorations from sunscreens, lotions, etc. and the more you do, the more they get larger, darker & bumpier. Like exercising, your muscles will sag, when suddenly you stopped, same with getting a tan, they will fade.

      Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
      A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.

      Getting wrinkly, early-aged skin

      Getting nasty, painful sunburns

      Getting skin cancer

      I DON'T think you can predict your future.

      Who cares if you have white skin, at least you will look beautiful when you get in your 50's, and girls with whiter skin will look YOUNGER looking in their 50's if you know how to preserve your skin.
      I just came for a vacay in Ireland, and many of the people there working in the profession (luxury hotels and banks, etc.) have beautiful white complexion!

      I've been protecting myself from the sun since age 9, but no matter, I got Discoid Lupus. Google that one. It was like someone punched my chin and it gave a purplish mark. It took 12 years for that to fade, so now I'm using a wide brim hat or umbrella for protection. Gene Simmons & Shannon both have been seen hold an umbrella during an event. They were invented before beauty products, for a reason.
      HOW OLD DO YOU LOOK . . . REALLY?
      Blame genetics all you want, but it's really about how you've treated your skin. Dr. Michael Roizen, M.D. internist & author of the RealAge books, to quantify the effect your habits have had. The quiz is designed with a 28yrs. old in mind. Damage is cumulative, so if you're older or younger than 28, the number on the right would be slightly higher or lower.

      Take your age and add the number of years listed on the right for every 'yes' answer.
      1. Have you had more than 10 bad sunburns in your life? + 25 years
      2. Do you have red, itchy eyes from allergies: + 25 years
      3. Are you a regular smoker? + 2 years
      4. Do you live in a highly polluted city? + 25 years

      Now subtract the number of years on the right for every 'yes' answer.
      1. Do you cleanse your skin every day? - 1.5 years
      2. Do you get seven to nine hours of sleep each night - 1.5 years
      3. Do you wear sunscreen regularly? - 1 year
      4. Do you have dark brown skin tone? - 1 year
      5. Do you regularly wear moisturizer? - 1 year

      I searched yahoo images for "paper pop-up" There are books for sale and photos of pop-up's . I noticed that the easiest pop-up is a reverse fold. I copied some links for you.

  35. QUESTION:
    Logic gates question?
    Why can't you make an AND gate using only one transistor?

    I mean, say that the collector is A and the base is B, and the emitter is the output.
    Electricity can only exit the emitter if and only if there is electricity is entering the transistor (A is True) AND the base is receiving electricity, putting the transistor in the on state (B is true).

    So how come every time I see a model of an AND gate using transistors, they always use an entire transistor for each input? Doesn't that over-complicate things?

    And why are there so many resistors as well? What do they do?

    Please tell me if I'm missing something. I'm only 14 so i don't really know this stuff well.

    Here is a picture of the classic AND gate with transistors for reference:

    • ANSWER:
      NO you cannot. An AND gate has 2-inputs and a transistor has only one.
      If you examine the circuit you will see that there are (2) transistors to isolate each input.
      You can also accomplish this with diodes that are reverse biased (operate in off mode pulled to ground).

      The way you described it is not an AND gate, but what is called a DRIVER or INVERTER with an ENABLE.
      You are using the base to ENABLE the collector to pass. You are not logically ANDing the two.

      Examine the logic truth table and run thru all possible combinations and you will see that if B is true that A will pass thru and potentially change the output. This is an unstable conditon and is NOT true for every possible case.

      The logic functions must be able to pass all conditions for all states of electricity not just logic !!

      Also for an Emitter Coupled Logic Output, this is a HIGH CURRENT logic for FAST SPEED and is again a form of OUTPUT ENABLE not logic !! Read the power supplies section of this logic carefully:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emitter_coupled_logic

      This is a speed advantage as is schottky logic:

      Take it on faith that transistor logic was simplified years ago. When i was you age i wanted to create a 3-state logic that i later found out to be what is tri-state logic. Today there are many types of logic including Fuzzy Logic, which never really caught on either.

      There are new forms of logic prediction methods that you may want to look into. This will likely form the basis of articial intelligence.

  38. QUESTION:
    What is the gradient on the graph pH against log V/Ve - V? following equation might help.?
    What is the gradient on the graph pH against log V/Ve - V? following equation might help.?
    eq pH = pKa + log (V/ Ve - V)

    x axis = pH
    y = log (V/ Ve - V)

    also please tell me what is the intercerpt and gradient equal to

    • ANSWER:
      When I read "gradient" in the question, I assumed you were referring to vector calculus. But your graph is rather simplistic (only two dimensions) and after reading the entire question, I believe you have posted this in the wrong forum. You should have posted this question in "Chemistry".

      The gradient you're referring to is not the differential of a multivariable function as used in vector calculus, but rather, the gradient you're referring to is called the "concentration gradient", a big difference.

      The "concentration gradient" is defined as the ratio of solute concentration between two adjoining regions.

      I suggest you try searching for "Henderson Hasselbalch graph", which should look something like this:

      http://www.wiley.com/college/pratt/0471393878/student/review/acid_base/buffer_titration.gif

      (Note: the x-axis and y-axis are reversed for this graph).

  39. QUESTION:
    Stock opinion - PDLI?
    Would lik to have opinions from experienced investors/traders although this is not a trading stock
    Stocks been hanging at it's current price for awhile, the financials look good, chart looks decent, advisors have good take on it.

    What's is you take on PDL BioPharama Inc (PDLI)

    • ANSWER:
      No...Charts are relevant...despite the rant against them by @ILikeTurtles...I doubt he has any skills to comment on them properly anyway. In fact his comment on this stock can be discounted completely as he has obviously not looked at this stock at all and is just shooting from the lip.

      Personally though I am not a big fan of most BioPharmaceuticals...especially those that are searching for a holy grail cure for this that and the other disease and working their way through the Phase 1-3 trials to get FDA approval.

      On those stocks you are buying into HOPE as generally these companies have no revenues and the interest in the stock occurs when they are pumped as they approach the results of whatever test they are conducting.

      But PDL BioPharma is a bit different in that it has a steady revenue stream in the form of royalty fees they receive for drugs that they have piloted through this FDA minefield to become commercial products

      http://pdl.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/graph_royalty_2011.gif

      This chart shows a steady in royalties from all of its products with the exception of Synagis for whatever reason.

      Balance sheet: http://tmx.quotemedia.com/financials.php?qm_symbol=PDLI:US

      Debt does not see to be a great problem and is reducing year on fiscal year with only long term debt and no short term debt

      Income Statement: Net income seems to be fine as well

      So you are correct it has good fundamentals both in the increasing royalty revenue, decreasing debt and solid product base to work from.

      Let us look at the charting

      http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.pnf?chart=PDLI,PWUADANCBO[PA][D][F1!3!0.2!!2!20]&pref=G

      this is a much coarser chart than I would normally use but it was necessary in order to see its current position compare to its past. mid-2006 to early-2009 was not a particularly kind period for this stock. But that is understandable given the time period. You can see recovery here that is quite slow for several years...2012 being a slow gain...rising from .00 to .75 in 6 months...I suppose this slow rise is what you mean when you say "Stocks been hanging at it's current price for awhile"

      Actually I like slow steady rises...It has just broken a resistance at .70...there is another resistance following this at .80...we will see later in another chart if it has the momentum to get through it....the next serious resistance is at .60 with MAYBE a weak resistance at .60 before it.

      http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=PDLI&p=D&yr=0&mn=6&dy=0&id=p35974182200

      This is a very nice chart...you can see how it tried to break that .80 secondary resistance I saw in the previous chart and it fell back....but this brought it back to the Upper Bollinger Band (BB) and that is not serious at all. The Slow Sto, MACD and BBwidth charts remain in great shape. When all three charts reverse direction at the same time that will be the end of the current run...But I am not sure I would sell it then unless it was dramatic in its fall....I think it will consolidate by moving sideways until the BB's tighten again...(ie BBwidth falls to around 0.30 again)

      http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=PDLI&p=D&yr=0&mn=6&dy=0&id=p38345441622

      Everything about this stock is bullish...rising RSI (not in oversold range even), CCI pegged in the green and the ADX DI+/- moving further apart (and black ADX line showing this trend as strong)

      Conclusion

      As I said earlier, I am not a big fan of BioPharmaceuticals but I think you have found a good one here....the 8% quarterly dividend does not hurt either.

      Short term I see a rise to about .60 but after a rest I think .60 has a good shot as well....If it passes .60...it may challenge previous highs...but cross that bridge later make sure the passage of the noted resistances happens first.

      Nice Pick
